The Bengal Tiger, Photographed at Ranthambore National Park Ranthambore is one of the largest national parks in northern India, covering an area of 392 km. It is situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan. It is named after the historic Ranthambore fort, which lies within the park. Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is known for its tigers and is one of the best places in India to see these animals in their natural jungle habitat. Tigers can be easily spotted even in the daytime. The best times for tiger sightings at Ranthambore National Park are in November and May.

The Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the most numerous tiger subspecies. By 2011, the total population was estimated at fewer than 2,500 individuals with a decreasing trend.

The Grey Heron: Photographed at Bhigwan. Bhigwan is a small dusty town on the border of Pune and Solapur district in Central Maharashtra, India. South of Bhigwan town, exists a widespread backwater formed due to a man made dam built on the Bhima river. The dam is called as Ujni dam. There are two areas where one can see the migratory water birds. 1) Diksal-Parewadi area and 2) Dalaj – Kumbharwadi area. From here, one can hire a small fishing boat to locate exotic species
such as flamingo etc. The grey heron, is a wading bird of the heron family. Found throughout Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is a large bird, standing up to 100 cm (39 in) tall and measuring 84–102 cm (33–40 in) long with a 155–195 cm (61–77 in) wingspan. The body weight can range from 1.02–2.08 kg. Its plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below. Adults have a white head with a broad black supercilium and slender crest, while immatures have a dull grey head. It has a powerful, pinkish-yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow flight, with its long neck retracted (S-shaped). This is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which extend their necks. The call is a loud croaking. Gray Heron breeds in colonies in trees close to lakes, the seashore or other wetlands. It builds a bulky stick nest.

Photographed at ‘The Kaas Plateau’ also known as the ‘Kaas Pathar’ is a plateau situated in the Western Ghat Sahyadri range, 22 kilometers from Satara city in Maharashtra state of India and is known for various types of wild flowers which bloom during August-September every year. The area of plateau is located at a height of 1200 mt. and is approximately 1,000 hectare. The name Kaas originates from Kaasa tree (Elaeocarpus glandulosus). It has been declared as Biodiversity World Heritage Site by The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). The place has more than 850 different species of flowers and other plants including Orchids, Karvy and carnivorous plants such as Drosera Indica. This comes under the Sahyadri Sub Cluster of Western Ghats which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kaas Plateau is rich in its Bio-diversity. Many species are observed on plateau which are new to the Botanical Science. Many of the endemic, endangered plants are found on Plateau. More than 850 species of flowering plants are reported on the plateau. 624 species have entered in the Red Data Book. Out of these 624 species, 39 are found only in Kaas Region.

Crested Honey Buzzard / Oriental Honey Buzzard, Photographed at Nagzira wildlife sanctuary is located between Bhandara district and Gondia district of Maharashtra. The crested honey buzzard is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as kites, eagles and harriers. This species is also known as the Oriental honey buzzard. It has a long tail and a short head crest. It is brown above, but not as dark as honey buzzard, and paler below. There is a dark throat stripe. Unusually for a large bird of prey, the sexes can be distinguished. The male has a blue-grey head, while the female’s head is brown. She is slightly larger and darker than the male.

Black-Shouldered Kite (Hovering), Photographed at Amba Ghat. Amba ghat is a mountain pass on Ratnagiri-Kolhapur road (NH 204) in Maharashtra, India, at a height of 2000 ft above sea-level, This ghat lies in the Sahyadri mountain ranges (Western Ghats) and has picturesque mountain scapes and a pleasant climate. The black-shouldered kite is a small raptor. The adult black-shouldered kite is a small and graceful, predominantly pale grey and white, raptor with black shoulders and red eyes. Their primary call is a clear whistle, uttered in flight and while hovering. Black-shouldered kites live almost exclusively on mice. Their prey also includes grasshoppers, crickets and other large insects, lizards and rodents. Injured birds, small snakes and frogs. The black-shouldered kite flies slowly during hunting like a harrier, but it will also hover. When hunting the kite hovers with its body hanging almost vertically.

Barasingha Female, photographed at Kanha Tiger Reserve, also called Kanha National Park is one of the tiger reserves of India and the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh state in India.

The barasingha also called Swamp Deer, is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent. The barasingha is a large deer with a shoulder height of 44 to 46 in. and a head-to-body length of nearly 6 ft. Its hair is rather woolly and yellowish brown above but paler below, with white spots along the spine. The throat, belly, inside of the thighs and beneath the tail is white. In summer the coat becomes bright rufous-brown. The neck is maned. Females are paler than males.

Gray langurs or Hanuman langurs, the most widespread langurs of South Asia. Gray langurs are large and fairly terrestrial, inhabiting forest, open lightly wooded habitats, and urban areas on the Indian subcontinent.
